Creating My Own Portable Paint Palette!

I’ve seen lot of people online, especially on Pinterest, that sell these tiny portable watercolor palettes you can take with you anywhere you go. They look fun and easy to use! So I had an idea to try to create my own with some wood I cut from a tree in my yard. Here’s my process and how it turned out!

I started off with a limb that was about 2 inches wide and I used a hand saw and cut it in half. Then I took my drill and drilled holes to create the circles to place my paint in. I drilled about half way through the wood for the circles.

Next, I stained the wood with a pecan colored wood stain to seal it and keep it from rotting. I let that set for 24 hours then I added in my paint colors!

I used watercolor tubes of paint from Michael’s and put it in each circle, and let it set for a day, then it was ready to go! The paint hardens and stays in the palette. So all I had to do when I travel was get the paint wet with my brush and it was ready to use.

It’s really fun to be able to paint anywhere I go, I even can take it with me on my kayak. I’ve taken it with me camping, on road trips, and it’s so convenient! It’s a very easy project that is unique and affordable.

I hope this inspires you to create your own paint palette! If you do, send me a photo of how it turns out, I’d love to see it!!

Make sure you take the time to create and explore and try new things!
